DESIGNATED PREMISES SUPERVISOR PERSONAL LICENCE COURSE

Looking to become a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) at licensed premises? Call me, Johnny Walker, on 07970 134 730 and I’ll explain what’s needed to become a DPS at licensed premises. The first step is that you will need to obtain a Personal Licence.

A Personal Licence is required to sell alcohol and is required in addition to a premises licence. Premises selling alcohol require two licences – one for the premises and one for the person or persons responsible for the sale of alcohol.

Persons must satisfy the following criteria before your local licensing authority can issue a Personal Licence:

  • age 18 years or over
  • possess a relevant licensing qualification (I teach the Highfield Level 2 course, this is recognised throughout England and Wales)
  • have not forfeited a Personal Licence within the last 5 years
  • the police have not raised any objections to the granting of a Personal Licence, due to relevant criminal convictions
  • the appropriate fee has been paid
  • the DBS certificate is dated within one month of submitting your application

Personal Licences are no longer time limited to 10 years. Simply, you only need to make a one-time Personal Licence application. Your Personal Licence lasts indefinitely.

The requirement to renew Personal Licences issued under the Licensing Act 2003 was abolished, this took effect from 1 April 2015.

Once a Personal Licence is granted the holder can use it anywhere in either England or Wales and does not have to apply for a new licence when a change of work location occurs. A Personal Licence is exactly what it is called, a licence to allow an individual to sell, or authorise the sale of alcohol by individuals who are not Personal Licence holders on licensed premises.

If you wish to become the Designated Premises Supervisor, you will need a Personal Licence. Remember, you will need to gain a certificate to demonstrate that you have passed a Level 2 Personal Licence examination. This examination is held at the end of the day’s training course. On the day, we will also complete the application forms ready for your formal application submission to your local licensing authority.

I can deliver the course at your premises, on a day that suits you. Just call me, Johnny Walker, on 07970 134 730 and I’ll explain what you need to do.
