A personal licence is required by individuals who may be engaged in making and authorising the sale or supply of alcohol. Not every person retailing alcohol at premises licensed for that purpose will need a personal licence, but every sale or supply of alcohol must be at least authorised by such a licence holder.
The licence will be issued without an expiry date and remains for the life of the person. The licence remains permanently valid due to the Deregulation Act 2015. If you want to become the Designated Premises Supervisor at your premises, you will need to be granted a personal licence first.
A personal licence is required by the person responsible for the sale of alcohol from premises. This is in addition to the premises licence.
The fee for a personal licence is £37 and is recognised throughout England and Wales. It lasts for an indefinite duration, unless revoked or surrendered, and is in two parts:
- a card – this includes a photo of the licence holder, their name and address, a unique number, details of the council issuing the licence and an identifier for that authority.
- a paper form – this contains similar information to the card but doesn’t contain a photo. It also contains details of any relevant convictions.
The Police can object to the granting of a licence in certain circumstances. They must give licensing an objection notice within 14 days of the application being received. A hearing must then be held within 20 working days beginning the day after the 14 day period. Your application will then be decided by the licensing committee at a hearing.
During my one-day personal licence course, we will complete the applications forms, ready for your actual licence application. Call JOHNNY WALKER on 07970 134 730, for free advice on how to get ‘licensed to spill’. Just call, it’s not a problem. Cheers.
