If you want to spend the rest of your life behind bars, you will need a PERSONAL LICENCE.

I deliver the level 2 Highfield PERSONAL LICENCE course. This will give you the knowledge to pass the exam and more importantly, apply the law correctly when operating at your premises. The course is not just about passing a multi choice answer exam, it’s about understanding what the law expects of those who sell alcohol.

There are 40 questions on the exam paper, smarty pants who achieve at least 28 questions correct, will pass. Frankly, it’s not rocket science. Just choose the correct answer out of four given answers.

A PERSONAL LICENCE permits an individual to sell or to authorise the supply of alcohol at premises licensed for that purpose. Every premises where alcohol is sold, except under a Temporary Event Notice, must also have a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS), who must be the holder of a PERSONAL LICENCE. A person giving a Temporary Event Notice may authorise the sale of alcohol under their notice and they will not need to hold a PERSONAL LICENCE.

A PERSONAL LICENCE is not specifically linked to a premises licence. But, the DPS will be noted and the name will appear on the premises licence. In simple terms, you can use your PERSONAL LICENCE under any premises licence in England and Wales.

Applicants who wish to be granted a PERSONAL LICENCE, do not need to be in the licensed trade, anyone over 18 years can apply for a PERSONAL LICENCE. The good news is that once granted a PERSONAL LICENCE is indefinite. It lasts forever, unless it is suspended or revoked.

In exceptional circumstances, a Designated Premises Supervisor may not be required if a premises licence permits the sale of alcohol at a village hall or church hall. Premises such as these can apply to have the DPS requirement removed from the premises licence.

There is no limit to the number of PERSONAL LICENCE holders who may work at any one premises, although each individual may only hold one PERSONAL LICENCE.
