You are not required to hold a Personal Licence to be employed in a pub or other licensed business that sells alcohol. But, a premises licensed to sell alcohol must have a Designated Premises Supervisor, who holds a Personal Licence.
A Personal Licence allows an individual to authorise the sale or supply of alcohol. All premises with a premises licence will need at least one Personal Licence holder where one of their activities is the sale or supply of alcohol.
In order to apply for a Personal Licence, you must be aged 18 years or over, and hold a relevant licensing qualification.
If you are applying for a Personal Licence, you must obtain an accredited qualification first. The aim of the qualification is to ensure that licence holders are aware of licensing law and the wider social responsibilities involved in the sale of alcohol. I deliver the Highfield Level II Personal Licence course in Stratford upon Avon and throughout England and Wales.
Under Deregulation Act 2015 the requirement to renew a Personal Licence was abolished from 1st April 2015. This means that all existing Personal Licences will carry on indefinitely until such times that they are either surrendered or revoked. The expiry date no longer applies and therefore now has no relevance. However If you change your name or address you must also notify the licensing authority that issued the Personal Licence, as soon as reasonably practicable, in writing and return your paper licence and card to them together with the appropriate fee of £10.50. You will then be issued with an updated licence. It is an offence not to do so.
My one-day Personal Licence course covers at the examination topics and I have a 99% exam pass rate. You will be in safe hands. Call me now.
