HEREFORD PERSONAL LICENCE SHOCK HORROR
There is no ‘ shock horror’. Only kidding. But seriously, selling alcohol is not a right, it is a privilege. Do read on to find out more……
A Personal Licence authorises an individual to supply alcohol, or authorise the supply of alcohol, in Herefordshire, at premises that already hold a premises licence. It is issued by the council covering the area where the applicant lives.
Personal Licences are ‘portable’ between premises in Hereford and throughout England and Wales, allowing the licence holder to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol for consumption on or off any premises with a Premises Licence.
Personal Licences are valid for an indefinite period of time, however you must still inform Hereford Licensing, or the local authority who issued the Personal Licence of any change of name or address.
A Personal Licence allows an individual to be a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) at a licensed premise that sells or supplies alcohol.
Applicants must not be under 18 years of age, and not had a Personal Licence forfeited within the last five years. You must also hold an accredited licensing qualification, such as the Highfield Personal Licence Holder’s certificate and must declare any convictions for any relevant or foreign offence.
Applicants must be entitled to work in the UK and must not be subject to a condition preventing them from doing work relating to the carrying on of a licensable activity. A licence will become invalid if the holder ceases to be entitled to live and work in the UK.
This application should be made to the Local Authority in which the applicant lives, not to the authority in which the licensed premise is located, unless this the same authority. Doh…… Before making your application, check your postcode to see which authority you should apply to.
