A personal licence is needed by anyone intending to supervise the sale of alcohol in any premises, including pubs, off licences, restaurants and hotels but not including private members’ clubs. A personal licence is valid indefinitely, unless surrendered, revoked or suspended and the holder is authorised to sell alcohol anywhere in the country at premises that have a valid premises licence.

To be eligible for a personal licence you must fulfil the following criteria:

• be aged 18 years or over
• not have forfeited a personal licence in the last five years
• not been convicted of any relevant offence or foreign offence 
• possess an accredited qualification

During my one-day course, we will also complete the application forms for the grant of a personal licence. Applicants gain a personal licence from the local authority where they live, not necessarily from the local authority where the premises is located.
